Whoever came up with the name, they could not have come up with anything more apt to describe this ridiculously good ice cold chocolate drink that's neither too cloyingly milky or sweet.
Don't even consider skipping that crowning glory of whipped cream and the generous sprinkling of chocolatey Milo powder or it won't be The Ultimate Milo Dinosaur.
Milo has its origins in Australia and is manufactured by Nestle. It is a mixture of chocolate and malt powders and enriched with vitamins and minerals.
It is marketed as a nourishing drink and is touted to do my body good. That is great because I can drink and eat copious amounts of it and not grow an extra belly. Ha! Perhaps, in my dreams.
The Milo Dinosaur is to me, the ultimate chocolate beverage. Where I live, it is sold by almost every drink vendor and you can order it just as easily from the many local coffee shops. It is without a doubt a well loved drink.
I spent some time spying at drink vendors as they stirred up this concoction as I was determine to find out what made it so tasty - the chocolatey taste was well balanced with a slight sweetness and there was just a spot of milkiness for that satisfying mouth feel.
Curiosity and greed, greed to a greater degree is a great motivator for me. I am now rather well known for these 'Ultimate Milo Dinosaurs' and I do 'take aways' too.

Ingredients
6 Tablespoons powdered Milo
Powdered Milo is sold in tins and in tetra paks. If it is not available in your supermarkets, it should be easily available at Asian grocery stores.
1/4 cup hot water
2 teaspoons evaporated milk

Aerosol whipped cream (from a can)
It has to be from an aerosol can for that authentic taste. You can choose to whip your own whipping cream (not heavy or double cream) but it won't be quite the same.
1 teaspoon or more powdered Milo
Method
You will need a tall glass with a capacity of 1 and 3/4 cups. This recipe makes 1 and 1/2 cups of Milo Dinosaur. The head space of 1/4 cup is to be filled by the whipped cream.
Add the powdered Milo into the glass and top with 1/4 cup of hot water. Stir to dissolve. Powdered Milo dissolves better in hot water than boiling water.
Stir in the milks and mix well. Then add the cold water and mix well.
Top up with the ice cubes and mix well.
Top with the aerosol whipped cream and dust with the teaspoon of powdered Milo.
Insert a straw, a long handled dessert/latte/sundae/tea spoon and slurp away.
Tips
What to do with all that evaporated milk?
- Dim Sum Mango Pudding. This is by far my favourite way to turn mangoes into a very mango tasting dessert.
- Macaroni And Cheese. This is a quick and easy recipe and the cheese sauce is smooth without that grainy feel.
- Lime Caramel Flan. Scroll down to 'What's Coming Up Next?'
- Chai Tea or Masala Tea. This milky tea is rather nice as an afternoon beverage. It has the flavour of freshly cracked cardamon pods and a hint of cloves.
This is not an ordinary caramel flan. It is a lime caramel flan infused with the leaves of kaffir lime leaves and lemon grass. Just a tiny squeeze of more lime over the flan before serving gives the flan and the caramel sauce more of that irresistible sweet and citrusy lime flavour.
